Public transport consists of vans; if they’re not at the airport, walk into town. They also run from town to Flamenco Beach, but for access to other beaches, cars and bicycles can be hired and there is also a taxi service.
Air
There are no direct flights Vieques-Culebra. Flights from San Juan International Airport take 30 mins, from Isla Grande Airport 30 mins and from Fajardo 15 mins. Isla Nena, at San Juan International Airport, T(888)2636213, 7411577, in Culebra, T7420972, flies 4 times a day San Juan-Culebra, US$60 one way, US$115 return, also 3 times a day Culebra-Fajardo, US$20 one way, and Culebra-St Thomas, US$50 on the mail flight Tue and Thu. Vieques Air Link, T7420254 (Culebra), T8633020 (Fajardo), T7223736 (San Juan), San Juan Isla Grande-Culebra twice a day, US$43 one way, and 3 times a day Fajardo-Culebra, US$20. Air Culebra is a charter company, T2686951, US$300 one way for up to 5 people.
Boat
At weekends the ferries are usually full; best to fly. The public ferry from Fajardo to Culebra takes about 1½ hrs, and costs US$2 per person each way, cars about US$26 return. Reservations 2 weeks in advance needed for cars. Fajardo ticket and information office is open 0800-1100, 1300-1500, T8630705, 1-800-9812005 (Culebra T7423161). Ferries which take cars are slower and rougher and passengers tend to get seasick. Cars also sometimes get bumped off; it is better to hire a 4WD on Culebra when you get there. A ferry sails weekdays Vieques-Culebra at 0600, returning 1700, US$2 each way.
