Impressive manor with a creepy past
Out of town, to the east, are two great houses. Greenwood (T9531077, daily 0900-1800, US$12) was built in 1780-1800 by the forefathers of the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It has a colourful avenue of bougainvillea and mimosa and a panoramic view over the coast from the veranda. Rose Hall (T9539982, daily 0900-1800. US$15 adults, US$10 children) was started in 1770 by John Palmer. A lively legend of witchcraft surrounds the wife of one of his descendants, Annie Palmer.
