Good Hope Great House: It's possible to rent the manor in the middle of a plantation
A little-known but exciting attraction, 2.5 km east of Falmouth, is a bioluminescent lagoon, known locally as the Luminous Lagoon, where the water comes alive at night with sparkling blue-green lights from marine micro-organisms called dinoflagellates. The lagoon is said to be the most active bioluminescent lake in the world. A dark, moonless night, a local guide with typical Jamaican sense of humour, and a small power launch, all of which can be booked through Fisherman’s Inn, are all that you need. Alternatively, the Glistening Waters Restaurant next door, offers regular boat tours after dark . Less than five minutes out, the pitch-black water behind the boat begins to illuminate, leaving a blue-green-white trail in its wake. When the boat stops, streaks of light flash intermittently in every direction, caused by small fry jumping out of the water. Larger fish tunnelling through the water carry a wake of luminescence with them.
