The capital of the province of Pastaza is the second largest urban centre in the whole of Oriente. It feels more like a busy lowland city anywhere in Ecuador, rather than a typical jungle town. Visits can nonetheless be made to nearby forest reserves and tours deeper into the jungle can also be arranged from Puyo. Sangay and Altar volcanoes are occasionally seen from town.
