Manta

Manta is the quintessential maritime city. Ecuador’s second port after Guayaquil and home to the county’s largest fishing fleet, it has hundreds of boats of all sizes moored offshore. This busy lively city has grown and prospered over the past decade but paid the price with diminished public safety; take routine precautions. Manta is quite spread out and, unusually for Ecuador, caters more to cars than pedestrians. As a port, Manta has something of a cosmopolitan flavour and prices are a bit high, but people are friendly. International cruise liners call on Manta from time to time.

It is most important seaport of the country, in addition, Manta is one of the most economically dynamic cities because of its relatively developed fishing industry, which stands out tuna fishing. They also include companies from vegetable oils and maquiladoras. Tourism is another important item in its development, thanks to the location on the Route of the Sun (road linking cities and tourist resorts on the coast of Ecuador).
