Four kilometres east of Same and 30 km from Esmeraldas, Atacames is one of the main resorts on the Ecuadorean coast. The beach is none-too-clean and it can become one big 24-hour party zone during the high season (July to September) as well as at weekends and national holidays. The west end of Atacames is a bit less noisy than the rest and, for those who appreciate peace, quiet and nature, there are much more tranquil alternatives further south .
