Fernadina is the youngest of the islands, at about 700,000 years old, and also the most volcanically active, with eruptions every few years. The visitor site of Punta Espinosa is on the northeast coast of Fernandina. The trail goes up through a sandy nesting site for huge colonies of marine iguanas. The nests appear as small hollows in the sand. You can also see flightless cormorants drying their atrophied wings in the sun and go snorkelling in the bay.
