Ins and outs
Getting there
The Panamericana goes by the western side of town, the Terminal Terrestre is just along it. A few simple hotels and restaurants are dotted along the highway, with better quality and more selection in the centre. This area is separated from the centre of town by the Río Cutuchi, spanned by a couple of bridges.
Latacunga
Bus
Note that on Thu many buses to nearby communities leave from the Saquisilí market instead of Latacunga. The small but functional Terminal Terrestre has a tourist information office on the 2nd floor, some shops, a bakery, cafeteria and restaurant.
Buses to Quito, Ambato, Guayaquil, Quevedo and all regional destinations such a Saquisili, Zumbahua, Chugchilán and Sigchos leave from the Terminal Terrestre on the Panamericana. Long-distance interprovincial buses which pass through Latacunga, such as Quito–Cuenca, Quito–Riobamba, etc, do not go into the terminal. During the day (0600-1800) they go along a bypass road to the west of the Panamericana. To try to get on one of these buses during daytime you have to go to the Puente de San Felipe, 4 blocks from the terminal, taxi US$1 from centre. At night the buses go along the Panamericana and stop near the pedestrian overpass at 5 de Junio.
Cooperativa Santa, has its own terminal at Eloy Alfaro 28-57 y Vargas Torres, 3 blocks north of the Terminal Terrestre along the Panamericana, T03-281 1659, serves Cuenca, Loja and Guayaquil via Riobamba and Pallatanga.
