South of Salcedo the Panamericana goes by the Laguna de Yambo and then descends to the more heavily populated valleys surrounding the city of Ambato. From Ambato, the Panamericana continues south to Riobamba, an important scenic road goes east to Baños and beyond to Puyo in the Oriente, and another main road, which goes by Chimborazo, runs southwest to Guaranda and beyond to the coast. There are also two road connections between Guaranda and Riobamba.
Ambato has plenty of transport from all directions. Guaranda is also well served from Ambato, Riobamba and Babahoyo on the coast. In both cities, long-distance services run from the Terminal Terrestre.
