West of Puerto Plata travel guide

To the west of Puerto Plata and within easy striking distance of the city, is Costambar, which has a long stretch of sand with few waves, making it perfect for children. There are restaurants beside the beach and supermarkets if you want to cater for yourself. This is the best place to look for self-catering accommodation, there are lots of villas and condos, some for as little as US$100 a week, excellent value if you are in a group.
