Maitencillo, some 60 km north of Viña del Mar and 19 km north of Las Ventanas, is an upmarket resort consisting mainly of chalets and frequented mainly by well-to-do Santiaguinos. There is a wonderful long beach here but the sea is notorious for its strong undercurrents. It is usually deserted off season.
