The damming of the Río Rapel has created Lago Rapel, a very popular destination for Santiaguinos taking their summer holidays. There are numerous small and pleasant towns, and several large fundos (farms) south of the town of Rapel, in an area of green hills and stunted thorn trees. Open roads by the coast have wonderful views of the high Andes east of Rancagua, while the beach at Pichilemu is one of the best in Chile for surfing. For listings.
