Bus

There are 3 terminals in Chiquimula, all within 50 m of each other. To Guatemala City, Transportes Guerra and Rutas Orientales, hourly, US$4, 3¼-3½ hrs, leave from 11 Av between 1 and 2 Calle, as do buses for Puerto Barrios, several companies, every 30 mins, between 0300-1500, 4 hrs, US$6.50. To Quiriguá, US$3.20, 1 hr 50 mins. Take any Puerto Barrios-bound bus. On to Río Dulce take the Barrios bus and get off at La Ruidosa junction and change, or change at Bananera/ Morales. To Flores with Transportes María Elena, 8 hrs, 0400, 0800, 1300. Buses to Ipala and Jalapa also leave from here; 4 buses daily to Jalapa between 0500-1230, 4½ hrs, US$5.80; to Ipala, US$2.20. Supplemented by minibuses 0600-1715 to Ipala. To Zacapa, 25 mins, from the terminal inside the market at 10 Av between 1 and 2 Calle. Same for those to Esquipulas, every 10 mins, US$2.70, until 1900. To and from Cobán via El Rancho (where a change must be made). Buses to El Florido (Honduras border) leave with Transportes Vilma from inside the market at 1 Calle, between 10 and 11 Av, T7942-2253, between 0530-1630, US$2.70, 1½ hrs. Buses return from the border at 0530, 0630 and then hourly 0700-1700.
