Boat

It’s a 10-min walk to the municipal dock at the end of Calle 12, from the Litegua bus station. Ferries (barca) leave for Lívingston at 1030 and 0500 (1½ hrs, US$2.50). Lanchas also leave when a minimum of 12 people are ready to go, 30 mins, US$3.80. The only scheduled lanchas leave at 0630, 0730, 0900 and 1100, and the last will leave, if there are enough people, at 1800. Transportes El Chato, 1 Av, between 10 and 11 Calle, T7948-5525, pichilingo2000@yahoo.com, also does trips from here to Punta de Manabique, and other places near and far.

To Belize Lanchas leave for Punta Gorda at 1000 with Transportes El Chato, address above, returning at 1400, 1 hr 20 mins, US$22. Also services with Requena to Punta Gorda at 1400, returning at 0900.

Bus

To Guatemala City, with Litegua, 6 Av between 9 and 10 Calle, T7948-1002, http://www.litegua.com. 18 a day, 5 hrs, US$11-7.50. Bus to El Rancho (turn-off for Biotopo del Quetzal and Cobán), 4 hrs, take any bus to Guatemala City. To Quiriguá, 2 hrs, take any capital-bound bus. To Chiquimula, operated by Carmencita, 4 hrs. Alternatively, catch a bus to Guatemala City, getting off at Río Hondo, and catch a colectivo or any bus heading to Chiquimula. For Río Dulce, take any bus heading for Guatemala City and change at La Ruidosa (15 mins).
