Golfito travel guide

Air

Several daily flights, mostly in the morning, with SANSA and NatureAir (local agent Land Sea Tours, T2775-1614), also via Coto 47 or Puerto Jiménez. The landing is reported to be a little on the tight side between the trees.

Boat

A ferry (locally called la lancha) makes the 1½ hr journey across the Dulce Gulf to Puerto Jiménez leaving the muellecito (small dock) beside Restaurante El Uno at 1120, returning at 0600, US$4. There is also a launch service to Playa Zancudo leaving around noon, 40 mins, US$4 – check time at Land Sea Tours or the muellicito.

For boat journeys further afield ABOCAP (Asociación de Boteros), T2775-0712, opposite the ICE building, provide water taxis in and around Golfito. To Puerto Jiménez it’s about US$80 for up to 6 people; US$45 to Playa Zancudo. Make enquiries for other destinations. Froylan Lopex, another water taxi, T2824-6571.

Bus

Services to San José with Tracopa, T2775-0365, leave the capital from Terminal Alfaro at Av 5, C 14, at 0700 and 1500 (7 hrs), returning at 0500 and 1300, US$6.10. Buses travel down the Pan-American Highway through San Isidro. Alternatively, take any bus heading south, alighting at the junction at Río Clara. Hourly buses travel to and from Ciudad Neily and Paso Canoas, US$1.

Banks

Banco Nacional will change TCs, although the service can be slow.

Internet service at Golfito On Line in centre of town. Good machines with a/c, open 0800-2100 daily. Also a machine at Land Sea Travel.
