Next stop heading west from La Garita is Atenas (population 6569), notorious for a consistency of climate that keeps the temperatures between 17° to 32°C a fact that has become part of local legend. A second, less well known, local story is that both the church and the main plaza of this small town lie on an earthquake fault.
