Bus information T983-832 5110. The main bus terminal is 3 km out of town at the intersection of Insurgentes y Belice. Taxi into town US$1.50. There is a bus into the centre from Av Belice. Left luggage lockers cost US$0.20 per hr. If buying tickets in advance, go to the ADO office on Av Belice esq Ghandi, 0800-1600. There are often more buses than those marked on the display in the bus station. Always ask at the information desk. Many buses going to the border, US$0.30; taxi from Chetumal to border, 20 mins, US$6 for two. Long-distance buses are often all booked a day ahead, so avoid unbooked connections. Expect passport checks on buses leaving for Mexican destinations.

To Belize
Premier run buses between Chetumal and Belize City, 1145, 1445, 1745, 3 hrs, US$8. En-route, they stop at Orange Walk, 2 hrs, US$4. Money changers in the bus terminal offer marginally poorer rates than those at the border. If intending to stay in Belize City, do not take a bus that arrives at night as you are advised not to look for a hotel in the dark.
To Guatemala
Linea Dorada operate daily buses to Flores in Guatemala at 0600, US$29. Schedules are very much subject to change, so always check times in advance and be prepared to spend a night in Chetumal if necessary.
Car
There’s a petrol/gas station just outside Chetumal on the road north at the beginning of the road to Escárcega, and another at Xpujil.
Garage
Talleres Barrera, helpful, on Primo de Verdad; turn east off Héroes, then past the electrical plant.
Taxi
There are no city buses; taxis run on fixed- price routes, US$1.50 on average. Cars with light-green licence plates are a form of taxi.
Colectivos
To Bacalar and Francisco Villa (for Kohunlich and Xpujil) depart from the junction of Av Miguel Hidalgo and Francisco Primo de Verdad.
