Guachochi, 156 km south of Creel, has a Wild West appearance. Founded by Jesuit missionaries in the mid-18th century, there’s not much to this little backwater, although it reached infamy in 2008 when drug-related violence erupted on the streets. In every other respect, however, Guachochi is a decidedly sleepy, middle-of-nowhere place where nothing remotely racy ever happens. The local speciality is fresh trout.
