The collections include Chinese and Arabian art works
The Museo Franz Mayer is housed in the former Hospital de San Juan de Dios, built in the 17th century. Recently rebuilt and exquisitely restored, it houses a library and an important decorative arts collection of ceramics, glass, silver, timepieces, furniture and textiles, as well as Mexican and European paintings from the 16th to the 20th centuries. Its cloister is an oasis of peace in the heart of the city. Nearby is the JardÃn Morelos, flanked by two old churches: Santa Veracruz to the right and San Juan de Dios to the left. The latter has a richly carved baroque exterior; its image of San Antonio de Padua is visited by those who are broken-hearted from love.
