cabo san lucas is a town in mexico at the tip of the baja peninsula
The resort town of Cabo San Lucas has grown rapidly in recent years from the sleepy fishing village of 1500 inhabitants it was in 1970. It is now an expensive international resort with a permanent population of 8500. The place is full of North Americans who come for the world-famous fishing or to find a retirement paradise.
Ringed by pounding surf, columns of fluted rock enclose Lover’s Beach (be careful if walking along the beach, as huge waves sweep away several visitors each year), a romantic sandy cove with views out to the seal colonies on offshore islets. At the very tip of the cape is the distinctive natural arch, El Arco; boats can be hired to see it close up, but care is required because of the strong currents. At the harbour entrance is a pinnacle of rock, Pelican Rock, which is home to vast shoals of tropical fish; it is an ideal place for snorkelling and scuba diving; glass-bottomed boats can be rented at the harbourside.
