Getting there
It is cheaper to fly south from Tijuana’s airport, Aeropuerto Rodríguez (TIJ) (8 km east of downtown, 17 km (20 mins) from San Diego, CA) than it is from any US airport. A taxi to the airport from downtown Tijuana costs US$6-7. The bus station is 5 km southeast of the centre at the end of Vía Oriente (at La Mesa); take any local bus marked ‘Central Camionera’ or ‘Buena Vista’ from Calle 2a. Local buses marked ‘La Línea/Centro’ go from the bus station to the border.
Air
Aeropuerto Rodríguez (TIJ), T664-607 8210, has flights to Mexico City, with good connections to regional airports. Also international flights to Las Vegas, Los Angeles in the USA and Panama City. Taxi between airport and centre US$15.

Local
General information is available at the bus station, T664-621 2606. It is possible to get buses to most destinations from Tijuana’s Downtown station, Calle 2 near Av Revolución, with the office close to the pedestrian bridge. Local buses marked ‘La Línea/Centro’, go to the border from the bus station, every 30 mins until 2300, US$0.50.
Long distance
There are local buses to the Central Camionera, the main bus station 5 km southeast of the centre at the end of Vía Oriente, from Constitución and Calle 3, about US$0.50; in a taxi bargain for US$10. There are good facilities including a casa de cambio, ATM, pharmacy and a couple of fast-food outlets. Services provided by Estrella Blanca, T664-683 5681, TAP, T664- 621 3903, and Transportes del Pacífico, T664-621 2606, for services throughout Mexico. For Baja California the main option is ABC, T664-621 2424.

Heading down the peninsula from north to south, with ABC departures every 30 mins, the options are: Ensenada, 1½ hrs, US$10; El Rosario, 6½ hrs, US$28; Guerrero Negro, 12 hrs, US$59; Santa Rosalía, 17 hrs, US$76; Mulegé 18 hrs, US$81; La Paz, 24 hrs, US$121.
To USA
From Tijuana bus terminal Greyhound has buses every hour, US$15, 1 hr 10 mins, to San Diego via the Otay Mesa crossing, except after 2200, when it uses the Tijuana crossing; coming from San Diego stay on the bus to the main Tijuana terminal, entry stamp given at border (ask driver to get it for you), or at bus station. Long queues for immigration at lunchtime. Walk across La Línea (border) and catch a Golden State bus to downtown Los Angeles, US$13 (buy ticket inside McDonald’s restaurant), 12 a day, or take trolley to downtown San Diego and get a Greyhound, US$20, or Amtrak train, US$25, to Los Angeles. Golden State is the cheapest and fastest; its terminal is about 1 km from Greyhound terminal in downtown LA, but stops first at Santa Ana and elsewhere if requested.
