Cayo Jutías, a 6.7-km cay, is attached to Cuba by a long causeway through mangroves. There is a restaurant/bar on the beach (open daily 1300-1800, bar 1000-1800) and there are thatched shade umbrellas, a beach volleyball pitch and a toilet. The beach is a narrow strip of curving white sand with mangroves at either end. The far west end is the quieter with the better beach. The sea is calm, warm and multi-coloured but there is weed and not much snorkelling unless you can swim quite far out to the reef, which is marked by buoys. There is some good brain coral and anemones and, although there is a good variety, the fish are quite small. There is a lot of sand and sea grass on the way out to the reef, which can get stirred up with poor visibility, but this changes once you are over the reef, which is shallow with excellent visibility, especially when the sun is shining. A kiosk rents snorkelling equipment for CUC$2.50 per hour or CUC$5 per day (individual bits can be rented separately) on production of identity documents. Sunbeds cost CUC$1.50 per day. Mégano, an islet just offshore, is reached by boat, 12 minutes. An excursion there with lunch costs CUC$50 for the whole day.
