The Johannesburg Zoo has over 400 different species of bird and animal set in an area of parkland and gardens. Covering 54 ha of spacious enclosures surrounded by moats and trees, the zoo is home to over 2000 animals from 355 species. The only polar bears in Africa can be found in the zoo. The ponds attract free-ranging aquatic birds, which come here to breed. All the enclosures have been upgraded and the night tours to see the nocturnal animals are fun, ending with marshmallows and hot chocolate around a bonfire. There is a small restaurant here for light meals and drinks.
