Stellenbosch Wine Route

There are a number of excellent vineyards in the Stellenbosch area, most of which are open for wine tastings 11am to 5/6pm. Definitely worth a trip out of town to survey the scenery and visit some of the beautiful homesteads for their hospitality.

If you only have time to visit one vineyard I recommend VERGELEGEN, which is near Somerset West. It has everything in one place ; wine tasting, obviously; a tour of the wine making process; the Lady Phillips restaurant or a tea room for food; a number of gardens to stroll around; and a museum detailing the history of the homestead. You can happily spend a day there enjoying the vineyard's exceptional wine over lunch, and taking a tour of how the wine is made. I love the Sauvignon Blanc from this particular vineyard.
