Along the road, 41 km northeast of Tunja is Paipa, noted for the Aguas Termales complex 3 km to the southeast. The baths and the neighbouring Lago Sochagota (boat trips possible) are very popular with Colombians and increasingly so with foreign tourists. From Paipa there is a minibus service, US$0.50, a taxi costs US$1.50, or you can walk in 45 minutes. There are innumerable hotels ($) and restaurants on the main street of Paipa and on the approach road to the Aguas Termales, though hotels at the springs are more expensive. Paipa is a good place to buy carpets, hammocks and handicrafts.
