Some 60 km up the Amazon, at the mouth of the Matamatá Creek, is the entrance to the Parque Nacional Natural Amacayacú, which is 100 km from north to south and a total of nearly 300,000 ha. It is bounded by several rivers flowing into the Putumayo and Amazon systems. At one point it touches the border with Peru. It is claimed that there are over 500 species of bird to be seen in the park, and 150 or so species of mammal, including pink dolphin, danta and manatí. The smallest monkey in the world, titi leoncito (Cebuella pygmaea) may also be seen.
