A gorgeous park, which contains Daechoong-bong, the third highest peak in South Korea. Idyllic and inspiring, the beautiful scenery is only 2 hour trip from Seoul. This also means it can be quite unexpectedly busy at times.
Getting to Seorak-san is not difficult. Buses from all over the peninsula run to Sokcho (속초), the northernmost city in South Korea -- 30 minutes east of Seorak-san. From the Sokcho Direct Bus Terminal, walk out to the main street and turn right. Walk until the first bus stop and take either bus number 7 or 7-1 into Seaorak-san. They run approximately every 20 minutes and cost 1000 KRW one way. This fantastic nature preserve is only two hours from Seoul, so you can bet it's going to be crowded almost anytime of the year, so get there early to beat the crowds. There are plenty of hostels in Sokcho, but I would suggest staying at one of the many accommodations in Seorak-dong. There isn't a damn thing to do regarding night life, but you'll have a front row seat to one of South Korea's most beautiful landscapes.
