beautiful beaches and uncontaminated nature
Ilha Grande is an island pretty close to Rio de Janeiro. Here you can enjoy lovely nature and beaches. From Rio you can catch a bus or van to Mangaratiba, and there the Ferry to Abraao, the main village of the island (still very small, just few streets). After arrival, you can find a huge choice of pousadas (hostels), and if you go there during the week you don't need to make a reservation. But do so if you are planning to go on the weekend. The best way to visit the island is walking, there are no cars at all. There are different walking paths, of different difficulty levels. Especially nice is the one from Abraao to Praias das Palmas. Other things to do: you can catch a boat, big or small, from almost every beach, with fisherman doing this service, pretty cheap. What you can't miss? Lopes Mendez beach, the second beautiful oceanic beach in Brasil.
