Santa Fe is capital of its province, one of the oldest cities of the country, though there’s little architectural evidence and this is not really a tourist destination. It lies near the confluence of the Ríos Santa Fe and Salado in a low-lying area with lagoons and islands just west of the Río Paraná and was severely flooded in May 2003, one of Argentina’s most shocking disasters. It is connected to the smaller city of Paraná, on the east bank of the river, by road bridges and a tunnel. For more information, see http://www.santafe-turistica.com.ar.
