Rosario is Argentina’s third largest city, renowned for its rich cultural life, since it is home to many famous artists and pop musicians. Although little visited by travellers, it has some fine buildings in its attractive centre, and a well-kept costanera alongside the Paraná river. The nightlife is lively, with plenty of cafés, restaurants and nightclubs, and there are daily theatre and live music shows at venues all around the city. To recover from all that entertainment, visit the nearby islands in the river, just minutes away from the centre, where you can relax on sandy beaches. It is a fantastic place to spend the weekend.
Fisherton airport (T0341-451 3220) is located 15 km from the centre. Remise taxis charge US$6 for a journey to town. Transfers are also arranged by airline companies. The bus terminal (Santa Fe y Cafferata, T0341-437 3030) is about 30 blocks from the Monumento de la Bandera. The terminal has an information point, post office, shops, restaurants and left luggage (open 24 hours, US$1.50 a day per piece). For local buses a magnetic card must be bought at kiosks in the centre or near bus stops (US$0.50 per trip). A remise taxi from the bus terminal to the centre will cost US$2, alternatively there are several bus lines to centre with stops on Córdoba (eg 101, 103, 115). There is also the Rosario Norte railway station (Av del Valle y Av Ovidio Lagos) .
