American Standard Building

by cristina

Originally known as the American Radiator Building, the American Standard was built in 1923-1924 in the Art Deco style. Its most striking feature is its black facade, which was crafted to lessen the visual impact between the building's walls and windows and project a sense of solidity. Gothic pinnacles and terra-cotta friezes further the dramatic architecture by being plated in gold. The American Standard is also the subject of Georgia O'Keefe's famous "The Radiator Building at Night."
