Fámjin is a small but beautiful village, which is situated on the west coast of the island Suðuroy. Suduroy is the southernmost of the Faroe Islands. Fámjin is an award winning village, it won the price called "Clean and Green Award Winner 2006", which means that Fámjin was the cleanest and best kept village in the Faroe Islands in 2006. There are neigther shops nor restaurants in Fámjin, but in summertime there is a charming little café with a terrase outside and a balcony on the first floor. The café is situated between the road and the beach. In the church one can find the first Faroese flag, which was made in 1919 by some Faroese students in Copenhagen, one of them was Jens Oliver Lisberg from Fámjin. He died a few years later. Every year on the 25th of April, which is the socalled Flagday, the flag is celebrated in many villages and town in the Faroe Islands, and especially in Fámjin. In summertime the boats are down by the quay, and people go fishing now and then. Most of the people in Fámjin have sheep, but many of them work in other villages. Just above Fámjin is a lake, which is called Kikjuvatn (The Church Lake). It is just a little walk from the village, the path starts near the church and goes up the hill.
