The hotel was founded on 23 December 1875 and was declared a national monument in 1981. Over the years, many celebrities from the world of arts and letters have stayed at the hotel, including Sarah Bernhardt, Luis Mazzantini, Imperio Argentina, Anna Pavlova, Rubén Darío, Jacinto Benavente and Frei Betto. More recently, the hotel has welcomed some of the most outstanding Cuban artists, writers and composers, who have presented their work in this distinguished representative of Cuban architecture, history and culture. The magnificent neoclassical facade is in harmony with the Arabian interior design. Together, they make up a building of unique elegance, which comprises a total of 83 rooms, including three on the top floor, four standard rooms, 42 twin bed rooms, 24 double bed rooms, and ten rooms with three beds. Facilities on offer include a lobby area, a safe, a currency exchange facility, a bar, two restaurants, room service, and shops. Parking is available for those arriving by car.
