Republic of Palau

Tropical Scenery in the South Pacific

On your way in, it’s deep blue South Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. As you gather your luggage at the airport in Anguar, you’ll be greeted by tropical, humid weather and some of the most pristine scenery in the South Pacific. Bookworms and history buffs can head to the Belau National Museum, but most tourist activities can and should be enjoyed outdoors. Palau’s scenic and uninhabited Rock Islands are an amateur photographer’s paradise. Scuba divers can enjoy the Floating Garden Islands, a diverse collection of coral reefs and South Pacific plants and wildlife. Aside from numerous opportunities for some serious tuna fishing, the local tourism industry can accommodate you with various sushi helpings in the form of mahi-mahi, California rolls, red snappers, fatty tuna, and octopus. Those and other oceanic delicacies are best enjoyed in one of the many resorts, cottages and guest houses. Most of these are accessible by road or by air, though mountainous Babeldaob (the largest island) will require you to use a four wheeler.
