Cave with sacrificial remains and Mayan pottery
Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM, for short) is one of the most interesting adventures you can have in Belize. Discovered in 1992, it dates back to between 700-900 AD and features Mayan pottery shards and other objects used for ritual, but the creme de la creme is the Crystal Maiden - the skeletal remains of a young girl whom archaeologists believe was killed as a human sacrifice. If this is too macabre for you, it's still worth going for the light caving you'll be doing. Entering the cave requires swimming straight into the mouth, water is sometimes chest-deep, and rocks are often slippery and wet during uphill climbs. Guides are obviously needed, but this is one of those times when the tour is so cool, you just have to take it.
