The twin brothers, passionate music lovers, thus succeeded in safeguarding the architectural heritage of their charming mountain village, with a population of 50 souls: Montsapey and the church of Saint-Barthelémy, now listed as a historical monument. “The biggest of the little festivals” For the past 16 years, the “Arts Jaillissants” has kept to the same recipe: an array of internationally renowned orchestras, soloists and operatic singers. They perform in the choir of a church adorned by wonderful restored trompe-l'oeil murals, the work of Pierre Moretti. The performers fully share in the successful “musical hikes”: lunch on the terrace of a delightful old inn, walks in search of the local mountain flora, afternoon tea at the alpine farm of Les Rouelles, painting and sculpture exhibitions in the "Grange du charpentier", renamed “Espace Lauzière” for the duration of the festival; a whole series of “Maurienne conferences for the arts”, which flourish at the foot of the Grand Arc mountain range. Les Arts Jaillissants 2008 pay homage to Margaret of Austria As Duchess of Savoy, Queen of France, Infante of Castile and Regent of the Netherlands, she was a central figure in the history of the great families of Europe in the 16th century. On the 5th of July, from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., the Maurienne conferences will be devoted to Margaret of Austria, on the banks of the lake of Charbonnières, where the House of Savoy originated.
