Set in the middle of Dvortsovaya Ploshchad, near the Winter Palace of the Hermitage, Alexander Column was erected to commemorate Russia's 1812 victory over Napoleon's troops. Funnily enough, it was designed by a French architect. The column is topped with the statue of an angel bearing a cross, and the angel supposedly was sculpted with Alexander I in mind.
