If you really wanna know Rio de Janeiro, well, you can't miss Botafogo. This neighborhood is just one metro stop from Copacabana beach and few hundred meters from the Sugar Loaf, but it is definitely less touristic and more authentic. The main streets are Sao Clemente, Voluntarios da Patria and Visconte da Silva - all connected by many small streets where you will see the typical houses: small, colored and with big gardens. In the streets Visconde de Caravelas, Visconde Silva, Henrique de Novaes, Conde de Irajá, Capitão Salomão, Martins Ferreira, you will find the so called "Gastronomic Area of Botafogo" a place where some of the best restaurants of the city are located and where you can find every kind of food. Another interesting place to visit is the Organic Market "Cobal da Humaita", a clean place where you will be able to find Brazilian and imported fruits, absolutely organic.

Finally two important cultural places of Rio de Janeiro: the House of Rio Barbosa, one of the most important politician of Brazilian History, you can visit the interior but the garden is the best part, it's nice just to sit there to relax for a while in such a chaothic city and the Museum of Indigenous Art. At night there are many nice clubs in Botafogo, one of the best is Casa Matriz, mainly rock or electronic music (it really depends on the day). Well known are also the young cariocas and several "botecos" (pubs) at the beginning of the street Voluntarios da Patria.
