] Acre (or Akko) (ˈɑːkɚ or ˈɑːkrə; ʿakkō; عكّا ʿakkā) , is a city in the Western Galilee district of northern Israel. It is situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Acre had a population 45,800 at the end of 2005.
