This Premonstratensian abbey was founded in 1129 by Godfrey I, Count of Leuven and Brussels. He offered this part of his hunting grounds and park to the abbey, hence the name Park Abbey (Abdij van 't Park). Successive architectural styles - from Romanesque to Gothic, Renaissance and eventually baroque - have left traces of a typical Brabantine version. Most of the buildings that remain today date from the 17th and 18th century.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon a lot of people visit the complex for a walk.
opening hours: the gardens and courtyards are open daily. Guided tours for individuals (access to the interiors): Sun. and Holidays at 4 p.m. - during winter only the first Sunday of each month. Groups by appointment only: + 32 (0)16 40 63 29
