Modern, Vibrant and Cosmopolitan - The New York of the East might even feel more authentic than the original

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as it is officially known, is the most modern and westernized of all Chinese cities. Even though the United Kingdom returned sovereignty of this archipelago to Beijing in 1999, Hong Kong’s clean streets and English-speaking residents continue to contrast greatly with the mainland. Here, in the “New York of the East,” both the natural and human geography provide ample opportunity for visitors to gawk. You can get your fill of shopping in the city’s hip boutiques or lose yourself in Kowloon’s crowded maze of street markets. Then, ride the streetcar up to the city's highest point, Victoria Peak, and gaze down on some of the world’s most expensive real estate. If you’re looking for a view that’s more centralized, dress yourself up and have a drink at one of the trendy rooftop bars downtown. Getting around is no problem either; regular ferry service is available across Victoria Harbor, and public transportation is cheap and efficient.
