What this location says about itself

by HotelsCombined

Set within a peaceful, tree-lined grove, this independently owned property is just a 10-minute stroll from York’s historic city centre and offers comfortable accommodation, bar/lounge facilities and excellent conferencing facilities.

The hotel dates back to the 1900s and was originally built by William Pentey, who was of some importance in the late Victorian period. The structure was commissioned by a Leeds tobacconist, who wanted to expand his business using the River Ouse to deliver tobacco to his customers. Later, during the First and Second World Wars, the building was used by the army paymasters. The property was later sold and developed into a hotel. Today, the building still retains some charming original features, such as the splendid staircase and leaded windows throughout.

The hotel offers several ground-floor rooms suitable for disabled guests, as well as ample on-site free car parking.
