What this location says about itself

Location. The Dar El Ghalia is located in Fes, Morocco, in the Andalusian district of the old Medina of Fes, the nearest medina gate being Bab Jdid close to R'Cif. Fes railway station is three kilometres away, and the airport is 17 kilometres from the hotel.

Hotel Features. The Dar El Ghalia is an 18th- century traditional Moorish palace converted into a hotel, with a central tiled courtyard with a fountain and antique furniture, and a covered terrace with panoramic views of the minarets and medina of Fes. The 24-hour front desk offers currency exchange and there is a library and Internet connections (surcharge). Parking is available nearby for surcharge.

The Restaurant Dar El Tajine at Dar El Ghalia serves Fassi Moroccan dishes, including the eponymous tagines, and stews of meat or fish with fruit served with cous cous. A complimentary Moroccan breakfast is served daily. The half-board rate includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner. The full-board rate includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

On site are massage treatment rooms and a small Turkish bath. Nearby are facilities for aerobics, yoga and swimming, tennis courts are four kilometres away, and the 18-hole course at Royal Golf Fes is 17 kilometres distance. The hotel can organise excursions to neighbouring sights.

Guestrooms. The 13 guestrooms at Dar El Ghalia are decorated in Arabic-designed tiles and woods, with antique furniture. All have patio access into the central courtyard, and were named for the prominent women in past times of the palace. All have satellite television, CD player, wireless Internet access (surcharge), safes, and minibars. Full- and half-board rates are available.

Expert Tip. Volubilis was a Roman settlement in the first century AD and its ruins are well- preserved and a spectacular sight against the surrounding mountainous landscape. There are dozens of mosaics still viewable, including a mosaic with a man riding backwards on a donkey.

Fees:

A city tax of 3-4 EUR per person per night, not included in the rates, is applicable to all bookings and is payable locally.

Gala Dinner:
Please note that the room rates for the 24th and 31st December 2008 include the entrance to a compulsory gala dinner.
