When you arrive at the Holbrooke Hotel you are entering into a world that is more than 150 years old, in a magnificent geographic setting, it is a hotel prepared to surround you with first-class, friendly, down home service and attitude. You will enjoy a bygone era. Built in 1951, the Golden Gate State Saloon was dedicated to quenching the thirsts of the gold rush miners. When its wooden structure burned four years later, it was rebuilt as one story, relatively fireproof fieldstone building. In 1862 the present structure was erected next to, and incorporated with, the Golden Gate Saloon. As it is today, the hotel was a welcome stopover in the years following the Civil War. At least four American presidents were guests and signed the still-extant guest book, as well as did authors Mark Twain and Bret Harte, and other luminaries such as Gentleman Jim Corbett and entertainer Lola Montez. In keeping with the Holbrooke Hotels sense of history, antiques grace all twenty eight guest rooms. Each room has a private bath, some with claw footed bathtubs, sitting areas and private balconies. There is full maid service, plus amenities in each room to ensure a comfortable stay. A continental breakfast is served each morning in the Library to hotel guests. The Holbrooke offers excellent lunches, dinners and Sunday brunches prepared by an experienced kitchen team and served in an impressive yet causal dining room and in season, on the outdoor patio. The hotel has five function rooms which serve functions from ten to one hundred and twenty guests.
