Iceland’s second city and “capital of the north”, Akureyri is a great base for touring the rugged northern coastline, the hotel itself is located in the student residence of the Akureyri High School, in the heart of the town, In the centre of town are cafés, restaurants, a large selection of shops, and other services (banks, post office etc.). The Kjarnaskógur woods are just outside the town offering a variety of pleasant walks. Akureyri has several museums, including the Folk Museum, Natural History Museum and Nonnahús, the childhood home of author Jón Sveinsson. Nearby are Kjarnaskogur and Vaglaskogur woodlands and top salmon, trout and sea fishing. In early summer, the sight of the sun on the horizon at midnight is like no other.<br><br><br><br>Adjacent to the hotel is a good open-air swimming pool, and Akureyri’s renowned botanical garden is also close by. The hotel provides an on site restaurant which seats about 150 people. Here you can have a delicious dinner buffet as well as an a la carte. Also recommended is the rich and varied breakfast buffet. A small café is also situated in the reception area and food is served on the terrace in good weather. The hotel boast almost 200 rooms with standard amenitites.
