Location. Consisting of a restored 19th-century stone villa and a contemporary building, Hotel Alpha is set back from the street behind terraced gardens, and lies 600 metres from the beach and less than two kilometres from Sorrento centre. Naples (Capodichino) Airport is 50 kilometers away, around 60 minutes by car.

Hotel Features. Surrounded by a sundeck planted with citrus trees are a family pool and a children's pool terraced above the street and screened by hedges and palm trees. Use of sun loungers and umbrellas is complimentary; towels are available for a surcharge. Guests can use the computer offering high-speed Internet access (surcharge), while wireless Internet (surcharge) is available in public areas.

In addition to serving a complimentary American buffet breakfast, the Alpha restaurant offers dinner service, including twice- weekly candlelit and Neapolitan party meals. A bamboo pool bar opens in warm-weather months.

Guestrooms. Hotel Alpha offers 67 air-conditioned guestrooms in two four-storey buildings. One is the 19th-century restored stone villa with ceramic-tile floors from the famed workshop of Vietri on the Amalfi Coast. The main building, opened in 1974, also includes similar decorative tiled floors. All guestrooms in both buildings open onto furnished balconies or terraces. Decor features 19th-century-style light-walnut furniture and a blue-and-white colour scheme. Wall-mounted flatscreen televisions offer satellite channels. Other amenities include safes, minibars, hair dryers, and shower/tub combinations.

Expert Tip. From Fuorimura Street, behind Tasso Square in the centre of Sorrento, is the best place to see a gorge called The Deep Valley of the Mills, where people lived from pre-historic times until the late 19th century. It was named for the flour and lumber mills that were once there.
