Location. Built in the 1400s, the Villa di Piazzano is a manor house positioned in the countryside outside of Cortona, Italy. Cortona is a small town located on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, which became well-known due to the book and movie "Under the Tuscan Sun."
Hotel Features. A cypress-lined drive leads up to the rustic Villa di Piazzano. Complimentary buffet-style breakfasts are served each morning. The Villa di Piazzano Restaurant serves light lunch items and a full dinner menu, specializing in Tuscan cuisine and regional wine. Themed dinners take place al fresco at the terrace. Linden trees, Italian oaks, jasmine, lavender and peonies grace the Italian gardens surrounding the hotel. An outdoor pool is on site and overlooks the Tuscan countryside. Daily activities include cooking classes, wine tastings in the cellar and olive oil tastings at the nearby mills.

Guestrooms. The 17 individually-decorated guestrooms, some with canopy beds, all feature views of the countryside and offer rustic charm. Amenities include cable television and air-conditioning. Private bathrooms offer complimentary toiletries and bidets.

Expert Tip. The foundation of the villa dates back to 1464, initially the hunting manor of Cardinal Silvio Passerini. Throughout the years, the estate was a convent, then a farming estate with vineyards and tobacco plantations; in 1999, the villa was renovated and transformed into a hotel.
