Principe Hotel Venice travel guide

Location. The Hotel Principe is on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. From the hotel, the Jewish Ghetto and the Ca' d'Oro are one kilometer away. Steps from a train depot, the hotel is about two kilometers from the famous Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Marco Polo Airport is approximately 13 kilometers from the hotel.

Hotel Features. Hotel Principe's three historic buildings retain their Old World charm with the central building retaining its 15th-century façade. Access to the hotel is available by land or by water. On the canal side, gondolas and water taxis arrive at the hotel's red-and-black- striped mooring. From the street, entrance is through a large marble lobby with comfortable sofas. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby.

Complimentary buffet breakfasts are served each morning. Serving breakfasts and dinners, the Principe Ristorante offers Italian specialties in a room that features yellow-marble floors and Murano glass chandeliers. The restaurant has a wall of windows that face the waterfront terrace that is open during the summer. Marco Polo Bar serves from late morning to late night. A computer terminal with dial-up Internet access is available for a fee. Two meeting rooms are available.

Guestrooms. The Hotel Principe's 137 guestrooms feature high ceilings with a mix of antique and modern furniture and carpeting. Some rooms have antique poster beds. Room amenities include minibars, in-room safes and private, tiled bathrooms. Most of the rooms offer views of the Grand Canal or the Lista di Spagna pedestrian thoroughfare. Internet access is available for a fee.

Expert Tip. Ca' d'Oro (correctly Palazzo Santa Sofia), one kilometer from the hotel, is one of the most beautiful palazzos on the Grand Canal in Venice. One of the older palazzos, it has always been known as Ca' d'Oro (golden house) due to the gilt and polychrome external decorations which once adorned its walls. Following extensive restoration to its former glory (including the reconstruction of the stairway), the palazzo is now open to the public as a gallery.
