George Washington’s statement that the Bahamas is the “Isles of Perpetual June” is on the money. Like so many of her sister islands’ capitals, Nassau is a beautiful mix of the old world and the modern age. Visitors seeking a token of their trip to the islands should make a stop at any of the straw markets, although the one in the capital is open every day, making access easy. The Bahamas holds many such distinctions – its system of limestone caves is one of the longest in the world; it has the third-largest barrier reef and some of the clearest waters in the world. Test this yourself by indulging in some snorkeling or glass-bottom boat rides.
