Whitefish is at the north end of the Flathead Valley that has Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The area offers scenic beauty, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and boating. Winter brings skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and dog sledding. The Resort has lodging, restaurants and a few shops. In the summer, the Resort provides a lift ride to the Summit, the Walk in the Treetops adventure and 18 holes of disc golf. For those who want to wrap themselves in the richness of an upscale mountain retreat, Kandahar Lodge is the place. Kandahar offers hotel style luxury lodging at the Whitefish Mountain Resort. In the winter, Kandahar Lodge has a convenient ski-in location. In the summer, it serves as a base camp to access Glacier Park and other summer recreation in the area. The Lodge has a lovely lobby with a large river rock fireplace and is decorated with antique furniture and fine art. Coffee is available in the Lobby in the morning and, during the ski season, cookies and cider are set out in the afternoon. Cafe Kandahar provides a buffet breakfast and gourmet dining with an extensive wine list. The Snug Bar opens in the evening to serve guests in the Lobby and Cafe. Guests enjoy the large outdoor hot tub, steam room, exercise room and massage area. The 50 rooms of the Lodge are located in two wings on three floors and have queen beds with down comforters, microwaves, small refrigerators and air-conditioning. A small conference room is available for meetings of 50 or less. There is no elevator and pets are not allowed. Kandahar Lodge is only 18 miles from the airport. Northwest, Delta, Alaska/Horizon and United service Glacier Park International Airport. Amtrak arrives daily in Whitefish, just 7 miles from Kandahar. During the ski season the S. N. O. W. bus provides a free ride between Whitefish Mountain Resort and Whitefish town.
